Trump praises Brittany Mahomes for 'strongly defending' him on social media

Former President Donald Trump thanked Brittany Mahomes for her apparent support of his campaign to be elected as president again.

Trump thanked Mahomes in a post on his Truth Social account and praised her and her husband, Kansas City Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes, as a "great couple."

"I want to thank beautiful Brittany Mahomes for so strongly defending me, and the fact that MAGA is the greatest and most powerful Political Movement in the History of our now Failing Country," Trump wrote. 

"With Crime and Illegal Immigration totally out of control, INFLATION Ravaging all Americans, and a World that is laughing at the stupidity of our hapless "leaders," it is nice to see someone who loves our Country, and wants to save it from DOOM. What a great couple - See you both at the Super Bowl!"

Brittany Mahomes’ apparent social media like kickstarted a social media firestorm over the last few weeks. She first indicated her support for Trump on Aug. 13, when she liked Trump's Instagram post that outlined the "2024 GOP platform."

The swimsuit model then appeared to respond to the criticism on her Instagram Stories.

"I mean honestly, To be a hater as an adult, you have to have some deep rooted issues you refuse to heal from childhood," she wrote. "There's no reason your brain is fully developed and you hate to see others doing well."

She posted another cryptic message on her social media. 

"Contrary to the tone of the world today….you can disagree with someone, and still love them. You can have differing views, and still be kind," she wrote Aug. 26. "Read that again!"

Mahomes was then caught liking supportive comments of her stance.

Overall, Mahomes said she is unconcerned about what anyone has to say about her. She expressed it as much in an interview on the "WHOOP" podcast and revealed what her husband has said about dealing with outside noise.

"I think the main thing he always told me is like, ‘Stop caring about what people think, especially the people that don’t even know you,’" she said. "And so I think social media used to get me a lot, and now it’s just like honestly I don’t give a f--- about what people have to say about me anymore, and I think he has helped me get to that point where I’m strong in who I am, I’m confident in who I am, and I’m confident in mine and his relationship — and I’m confident in our life. So, why does what other people say have to matter at all?"

Warning from wildlife officials about venomous snake in New Jersey: 'Never touch it'

Wildlife officials issued a warning in Somerset County, New Jersey, to be on guard for northern copperhead snakes after one of the species was seen last week in Watchung, a Garden State borough that's less than an hour from New York City.

The northern copperhead snake is described as having two shades of copper or a reddish-brown color.

It "inhabits rocky fields, berry thickets, woodlands and farmlands and may even be discovered among old mulch piles," said the N.J. Division of Fish and Wildlife in a "Snakes of New Jersey" publication.

This species is one of two venomous snakes found in New Jersey, according to the same source.

"There have always been copperheads in the northern half of New Jersey and most people who live in copperhead areas coexist with them without conflict, often without even realizing they are there," said Tyler Christensen, a PhD candidate studying copperheads at Rutgers University’s Department of Ecology, Evolution and Natural Resources in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

"The best thing a resident can do is learn how to tell copperheads apart from more common nonvenomous snake species — such as water snakes, milk snakes and garter snakes — and understand how to respond if they see a copperhead."

Although the warning was issued for New Jersey, the snakes are prevalent in other parts of the nation.

Here's a deeper dive.

Copperheads are much less dangerous than their reputation suggests, Christensen told Fox News Digital. 

"They are surprisingly calm and docile, relying on their camouflage rather than their venom to defend themselves from predators and humans," he noted. 

"A bite is usually delivered as a last-resort defensive effort, and their venom is mild relative to most vipers."

These snakes often blend into their surroundings. 

"Copperheads are extremely cryptic (i.e. camouflaged) so they can be very difficult to spot against a background of leaves, brush and twigs," Scott L. Parker, PhD, professor and chair of the Department of Biology at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina, told Fox News Digital.

Parker warned people to avoid touching or approaching copperhead snakes if these animals are seen or encountered.

"Copperheads don’t want anything to do with humans," he said. They will not attack, and if left alone they will quickly try to escape."

"To avoid accidentally getting bit, don’t put your hands and feet anywhere where you can’t see them, and always wear shoes and use a flashlight when walking outside at dusk or after dark in the summer."

Parker also said, "Millions of people in the eastern U.S., especially in the Southeast, live in close proximity to copperheads and don’t even realize that they are close by."

To prevent possible encounters with copperheads, the University of Virginia provides these tips on its website:

If you encounter a copperhead in a natural setting, in most cases you should simply leave it alone, Christensen at Rutgers University recommended. 

"Most bites occur when people try to handle or move the snake by themselves," he added.

"If you are bitten by a copperhead, don’t attempt to capture or kill the snake," he also said.

"Just get yourself to a hospital for treatment."

Texas state representative flips to GOP, says Democrats have plunged into 'progressive abyss'

A Democratic state politician in Texas is flipping to the Republican Party for her final four months in office.

State Rep. Shawn Thierry published a statement to social media on Friday decrying the Democratic Party's march into the "progressive abyss" after she lost her primary for supporting a GOP-led bill protecting minors from gender transition procedures.

"The Democratic Party has veered so far left, so deep into the progressive abyss, that it now champions policies that I cannot, in good conscience, support — policies like promoting sex changes for children during a vulnerable stage of their lives, and dismantling Title IX protections for women in sports," Thierry wrote.

Thierry said because of her break with the values of her party, she will serve her final few months in office as a member of the GOP.

Thierry lost to primary challenger Lauren Ashley Simmons during a runoff election in May.

A major factor in her failure within the Democratic Party is believed to have been her support for a 2023 Republican bill that barred gender transition for minors.

"Mothers around our country from all backgrounds, races, and communities understand that it’s our sacred duty to preserve the innocence of our children, protect them from being sexualized, and sterilized," Thierry wrote. "To respect universal truths, and to uphold the rights of biological women as defined by science, nature, and common sense." 

"I will not be alone; I will be with millions of courageous women and men of good conscience, who are willing to place people over political ideology," she concluded.

Drew Barrymore regrets posing for 'Playboy' in 'chaste' 1995 shoot, thought it was 'unlikely to resurface'

After more than 40 years of working in Hollywood, Drew Barrymore is bound to have some regrets. 

In a "very vulnerable" message posted to Instagram on Friday, the actress and talk show host reflected on her years in the spotlight, how her tumultuous childhood has inspired her parenting today, and the remorse she still feels over her 1995 "Playboy" photo shoot.  

"I was around plenty of hedonistic scenarios at parties and even in my own home where the viewing was of highly sensitive natures and caused me tremendous shame," Barrymore wrote in the post titled, PHONE HOME. "We, as kids, are not meant to see these images. And, yes, I was even a big exhibitionist when I was young due to these environments I was in. I thought of it as art, and I still do not judge it."

"But when I did a chaste artistic moment in ‘Playboy’ in my early 20s, I thought it would be a magazine that was unlikely to resurface because it was paper," Barrymore added. "I never knew there would be an internet. I didn't know so many things."

As a mom to two pre-teen daughters (Olive, 12, and Frankie, 10), Barrymore said she's focused on protecting her children "the way I wanted to be protected."

"I never thought in my wildest dreams that kids would be in my boat of too much excess and access," she added.

Barrymore went on to explain that she was emancipated at 14 years old, at which point she moved into her first apartment.

"I started my life over on my terms. But in a consistent message to myself, I found that there was no one to take care of me," she wrote. "My own mother was lambasted for allowing me to get so out of control. I have so much empathy for her now, because I am a mother. And none of us is perfect."

Barrymore further discussed the toxicity that can come from group texts. 

"We must protect our children from being put in scenarios where they cannot always control the rhetoric of the multiple-party dynamics that get put on record on a cloud only to potentially haunt them one day," she wrote. 

"I messed up in public when I was 13, and people were shocked," she added. "I was on the cover of the ‘National Enquirer’ and every other magazine as a washed-up tragedy. And I thought that would be my narrative forever. I wanted to disappear from the planet and never show my face again."

Vladimir Putin to make first ICC member state visit since arrest warrant issued for alleged child abduction

The Kremlin has dismissed concerns about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s upcoming trip to Mongolia, which will expose him to arrest under a criminal court warrant. 

"There are no worries, we have a great dialogue with our friends from Mongolia," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Friday, according to the Moscow Times. He added that "all aspects of the visit were carefully prepared."

The attention to Putin’s latest trip derives from the fact that Mongolia is a member of the International Criminal Court (ICC), which in March 2023 issued an arrest warrant for Putin over alleged involvement in the abduction of Ukrainian children. 

Putin has carefully avoided visiting countries that are signatories of the Rome Statute, thus making them subject to ICC jurisdiction. Russia – along with other major nations such as the U.S., China, India and Israel – are not signatories and thus do not answer to the ICC, but any visit to a Rome Statute signatory would subject Putin to arrest.

The concern came to the fore during his planned trip to South Africa to attend a BRICS economic bloc conference: South African President Cyril Ramaphosa tried to dodge the issue, reiterating Russia’s declaration that an arrest would be tantamount to "a declaration of war." 

"It would be inconsistent with our Constitution to risk engaging in war with Russia," Ramaphosa said at the time.

Putin ultimately decided against attending the BRICS conference in person, instead sending his foreign minister Sergei Lavrov to attend in his place. 

Now, Putin plans to visit Mongolia – a Rome Statute signatory – on Sept. 3 at the invitation of the Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, to celebrate the 85th anniversary of a joint military victory over the Japanese forces.

The two leaders will also hold talks about developing "comprehensive strategic partnerships" and sign "a number of bilateral documents," according to a statement from the Kremlin. 

Ukraine responded to the news of Putin’s visit by calling on Mongolian officials to adhere to their ICC commitments and follow through on Putin’s arrest. 

In a statement, Ukraine referred to Putin as a war criminal and stressed that kidnapping children is just "one of the many crimes" that Putin has committed since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. 

"These individuals are guilty of an aggressive war against Ukraine, atrocities against the Ukrainian people," the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry wrote in a post on Telegram.  

"We call on the Mongolian authorities to execute the mandatory international arrest warrant and hand over Putin to the International Criminal Court in The Hague," the ministry added.

Pro-lifers blast Trump 'betrayal' with shifting abortion stance, answer on Florida Amendment 4

Former President Donald Trump's latest comments on abortion, including his opposition to Florida's ban on abortions after six weeks' gestation, have sparked backlash from pro-life advocates on social media.

"Trump has destroyed both the conservative movement and the pro-life movement. He’s done what even Barack Obama couldn’t do," one user on X said.

Former Vice President Mike Pence also posted to X, saying, "I'm pro-life. I don't apologize for it."

HARRIS REPEATS DEBUNKED CLAIM TRUMP WANTS TO 'BAN' ABORTION DURING FIRST CAMPAIGN RALLY SINCE BIDEN QUIT RACE

Georgia-based nationally syndicated radio host Erick Erickson also slammed Trump's comments, saying on X, "Instead of having all the focus on the Kamala Harris interview tonight, Trump decided to further divide the GOP. Not a good strategy for winning."

Other users expressed anger over Trump's "betrayal" of the pro-life movement, which helped elect him in 2016. 

"If Pro-lifers had a spine and punished Trump for his betrayal by staying home in November, he would lose so badly that no Republican would ever dare to betray you on such an important issue," one X user said. "Sadly, he knows most of you will still vote for him so the betrayals will intensify."

Online political influencer and former police officer John Cardillo said he would be voting for Trump, but would "criticize him when he promotes Democrat policies."

"I don’t care how you spin it. Trump told NBC he’s voting for a Soros funded unrestricted abortion amendment in FL," he wrote on X.

A spokesperson for Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis — who unsuccessfully challenged Trump in the 2024 primaries and who signed the ban into law — also responded to Trump's indication that he may vote in favor of Amendment 4, which would enshrine a constitutional right to abortion in Florida.

"Donald Trump has consistently stated that late-term abortions where a baby can feel pain should never be permitted, and he's always stood up for parents' rights. Amendment 4 would allow late-term abortions, eliminate parental consent, and open the door to taxpayer-funded abortions," Taryn Fenske said on X.  "It's extreme and must be defeated."

Conservative commentator David Limbaugh, brother of the late conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh, said he "wholeheartedly" supports Trump, but that he "needs some ardent pro-lifers in his campaign-advisory inner circle."

"Unforced errors are worse than run of the mill errors. Appeasement strategies that alienate more supporters than impress non-supporters are just plain disappointing," he said on X.

Last week, Trump also upset anti-abortion activists when he posted on his Truth Social platform, "My Administration will be great for women and their reproductive rights." He has also indicated he would not restrict access to abortion prescriptions. 

This election cycle, Trump has countered Democratic attacks by stating he would leave abortion access to the states, as determined by the overturning of Roe v. Wade, and opposes a federal abortion ban. The Republican Party also abandoned its long-standing position of advocating for abortion limits in July. However, Trump has remained opposed to late-term abortions.

On Thursday, Trump also said he would subsidize federal IVF treatments, despite saying abortion would be considered a state issue. The Trump campaign did not directly respond to what constitutes a state issue versus a federal one when asked via email.

"I think the six-week is too short, there has to be more time," Trump told an NBC News reporter when asked how he will vote on Florida's Amendment 4 that will appear on the ballot for November elections. "I've told them that I want more weeks," he continued. 

The reporter then pressed if Trump would vote in favor of the amendment. 

"I am going to be voting that we need more than six weeks. Look, just so you understand, everybody wanted Roe v. Wade terminated for years, 52 years. I got it done. They wanted it to go back to the states. Exceptions are very important for me, for Ronald Reagan, for others that have navigated this very, very interesting and difficult path," Trump responded. 

The Trump campaign told Fox News Digital on Thursday evening that the 45th president has not yet revealed how he will vote on Amendment 4. 

"President Trump has not yet said how he will vote on the ballot initiative in Florida, he simply reiterated that he believes six weeks is too short," Trump campaign national press secretary Karoline Leavitt said.
