Graham urges Trump to focus on policy against Harris, warns 'showman' might not win

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., says policy is the GOP's key to the White House, and urges former President Trump to focus on that rather than his opponent.

"Donald Trump, President Trump, can win this election," Graham said Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press." "His policies are good for America. And if you have a policy debate for president, he wins. Donald Trump, the provocateur, the showman may not win this election."

The response followed a question by host Kristen Welker on whether Trump should stop making personal remarks about Vice President Harris regarding characteristics like race and intelligence. 

"I'm looking for President Trump to show up in the last 80 days to define what he will do for our country, to fix broken borders, to lower inflation," Graham continued. "The numbers that Americans are living with under Harris-Biden, a terrible 50% increase in gas prices, mortgage rates going through the roof, grocery costs are really high. That's what I would focus on. Policy. Policy is the key to the White House."

The GOP senator offered similar advice two weeks ago while on "Fox News Sunday."

"So, here's what I would say to President Trump. The problem I have with Kamala Harris is not her heritage, it's her judgment," Graham said. "She has been wrong about everything. When she tried to explain what she would do about inflation and an upcoming recession, it made no sense. It's gibberish."

Trump posted an image of Harris’ birth certificate on Truth Social after receiving a lot of criticism for remarks he made during a Q&A session at the National Association of Black Journalists in Chicago.

"She was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage," the former president said during the Q&A. "I didn't know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black and now, she wants to be known as Black. So, I don't know. Is she Indian or is she Black?"

Both Harris and Trump campaigned this weekend in battleground Pennsylvania. 

Harris is expected to formally accept the Democratic presidential nomination at the 2024 Democratic National Convention this week in Chicago.

Bears' Caleb Williams knows how special connection with fellow rookie Rome Odunze will be: 'Explosive'

The Chicago Bears used precious draft capital on two Top 10 picks in April, and they’re already starting to showcase why they were so highly thought of. 

No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams and his lofty expectations have all the bright lights on him whenever he touches the field, including Saturday against the Buffalo Bills for his second preseason action. 

And while he had a tremendous scrambling touchdown that wowed the crowd in upstate New York, there was also his fellow first-round teammate, wide receiver Rome Odunze, making an impact for Chicago.

Williams' biggest gain on a pass play so far this preseason came on Saturday, when he fired a ball deep downfield on the run to Odunze for a 45-yard gain. 

It was a perfect route and a perfect throw that got the Bears fired up, and Williams almost had Odunze catch his first touchdown of the preseason, though his feet were not in bounds when he made the grab later in the drive. 

Either way, NFL fans got to see what this rookie connection could look like this season with Williams and Odunze building a rapport. The signal caller already knows it’s going to be special. 

CALEB WILLIAMS, AARON RODGERS HEADLINE ‘MOST INTERESTING’ QBS IN 2024

"We’re going to be explosive," Williams said, via NBC Sports Chicago. "We’re two rooks, but we’re trying to catch up to the old guys as fast as we can to make sure that we are right there on par with them to be able to be efficient, function, go out there and be explosive, be on the same page and win games. That’s ultimately what we are here to do. Having a guy like that was drafted with me, we’re only going to keep growing and building this connection."

Williams went 6-for-13 for 75 yards with his touchdown run of seven yards on Saturday, while Odunze caught his one pass and took one rush for 16 yards as well.  

On Draft Day, Williams was seen bombarding Odunze’s first interview with the media over Zoom, and they’ve been building a connection on and off the field since. 

There are many who believe the Bears will see an immediate uptick in production and wins with this Williams era beginning in the Windy City. Odunze is among two Pro Bowl veterans in D.J. Moore and Keenan Allen at receiver, while tight end Cole Kmet and running back D’Andre Swift are also a part of what can be an explosive offense all around. 

Odunze, though, has specifically showcased his route-running abilities to go along with his speed and contested catch abilities at practice as he battles against his teammates. 

So long as he and Williams continue to work on their craft together as rookies, they can fulfill the high expectations that have been set for both of them. 

They’ll have one more preseason game to get that chemistry working full tilt before they face off against the Tennessee Titans in Week 1 at home.

Fever-Mercury game erupts into shoving match as WNBA returns from long break

The Indiana Fever expected a tough match up in their first game back after the WNBA returned this week following an extended break for the 2024 Paris Olympics. 

And that’s exactly what they got when they stepped on the court to face the Phoenix Mercury on Friday night. 

"You knew they were going to come in here with a lot of confidence, with three people that have won gold medals," Caitlin Clark said after the Fever’s 98-89 victory at home.

"You know their confidence is really high, and I thought we came out and really set the tone."

Matching the confidence level was the physicality on the floor. 

Two scuffles broke out during the game, including a shoving match that erupted in the third quarter between Indiana’s Kelsey Mitchell and Natasha Cloud of the Mercury.

Mitchell appeared to go down by the three-point line after contact from Cloud, and immediately turned around to shove her opponent. The two briefly got into a back-and-forth before being separated by players and coaches, resulting in double technical fouls.

"You got to get a little gritty and dirty, obviously," Mitchell told reporters of the game’s physicality. "I had a moment myself with T. Cloud and hats off to her for being a competitor, but I think it kind of helped us. The grit and the game and those third quarters and when team’s make runs is how you win a game in the WNBA. You’ve gotta be gritty." 

Cloud also spoke about the incident post-game. 

"I have nothing but love for her . . . that’s just the competitiveness of the game." 

Another minor scuffle between Brittney Griner and Aliyah Boston also unfolded, but no technical fouls were given out. 

The Fever play next against the Seattle Storm on Sunday.

Biden says admin is 'closer than we've ever been' to cease-fire deal in Middle East

President Biden claims a cease-fire deal in the Middle East is closer than ever.

Biden made the surprise announcement after signing a proclamation establishing a national monument in memorial of the Springfield 1908 Race Riot — a live event to which he arrived noticeably late.

"One of the reasons I was late for y'all is because I was dealing with the cease-fire effort in the Middle East," Biden told the guests and reporters inside the Oval Office. "And we are closer than we've ever been."

A senior Iranian security official has warned that Iran will attack Israel if its talks with Hamas for a cease-fire in Gaza fall apart, a report says.

Only Israel and Hamas reaching a cease-fire deal would hold Iran back from a direct strike against Israel in the wake of the assassination of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran in late July, three senior Iranian officials told Reuters, but the news agency notes that the sources did not say how long Iran would let the talks progress before deciding to take any action. 

Hamas said Sunday that it would not participate in new negotiations for a cease-fire in Gaza this week unless mediators present a plan based on previous talks. Talks are expected to resume on Thursday.

US Olympian A'ja Wilson has explicit 2-word description of teammate after close gold medal win

A’ja Wilson praised Kahleah Copper for her performance in helping Team USA to a one-point victory over France for the gold medal in the women’s basketball event at the Paris Olympics.

Copper finished with 12 points off of the bench, including a strong drive for a 2-point basket late in the game and the last free throws. Wilson added 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, but she was asked to describe Copper in the immediate aftermath of the 67-66 win.

"That b----," Wilson said.

Copper, with ice in her veins, made it a three-point game with 5 seconds left. If she missed one of the free throws, France’s Gabby Williams’ long 2-pointer would have tied it up. If she missed both, then Williams’ shot may have been for the win.

Instead, the Americans picked up their 61st consecutive Olympic win and their eighth straight gold medal.

Copper currently plays for the Phoenix Mercury. The gold is the first Olympic medal of her career. She was on the team when they won gold at the 2022 World Cup in Australia.

Copper’s teammate, Diana Taurasi, added to her illustrious career with another gold medal.

Taurasi has six gold medals in her career. She’s been on the team since 2004, when the Americans won in Athens.

'Sweet' Texas family missing, feared dead after boat capsizes off Alaska coast

A Texas family is feared dead after their boat capsized off the coast of Homer, Alaska, over the weekend while they were on a family vacation.

David and Mary Maynard, of Troy, along with their two young sons, remain missing after the 28-foot aluminum boat with a total of eight people aboard capsized Saturday evening approximately 16 miles west of Homer, according to the U.S. Coast Guard District 17 Alaksa.

The USCG suspended its search Sunday after 24 hours passed without any signs of the Maynard family pending the development of further information, a USCG spokesperson said in a press release shared with Fox News Digital.

"The decision to suspend a search is never easy and involves the careful consideration of many factors including environmental conditions and search operations," the spokesperson said in the press release.

The spokesperson adde that Alaska State Troopers and "multiple good Samaritan vessel crews also assisted with search efforts."

Homer Harbormaster Matt Clarke told the Homer News that a Good Samaritan boat called the Salty Sea rescued four others on a life raft that had been on board the capsized boat.

The USCG conducted a grid search of the area where the boat sank, Clarke added.

A GoFundMe for the Maynards says their "sweet family of four was lost at sea on their vacation to Alaska," a family friend wrote in a description of the fundraising page. We are asking for prayers and donations if you can, to help with unexpected expenses that the family would have to cover so suddenly," the description states.

The Maynards "left a huge imprint on many people," the GoFundMe says, from the laughter they brought to others to the "love and family-oriented connection they provided."

Spanish musician Victoria Canal shut down romance rumors after speculation surfaced that she's been dating Tom Cruise.

"guys. i am not dating tom cruise. this is literally insane," she wrote on her Instagram Story. She also posted a photo with her hand over her mouth on Instagram with a lengthy caption.

"guys, this is literally bonkers, but apparently the tabloids think i am dating tom cruise. i’m deceased," she wrote in part. "let’s just stop this in its tracks - i’m sorry to bum u out but i am not dating the man, albeit a lovely person & artist. lol never thought I would have to clarify that out loud in my life."

Cruise, 62, and Canal, 25, first met at a festival in Glastonbury earlier this year with things becoming romantic in the last few weeks, Page Six had reported before Canal took to social media to set the record straight.

"It might have seemed unlikely that they would become anything more than friends, but they are pretty much inseparable," the insider noted.

Cruise attended the "Twisters" premiere with Canal shortly after meeting at the Glastonbury Festival.

"We met backstage at Glastonbury and talked about the upcoming premiere we were both going to and he said, ‘roll with me!'" Canal posted on Instagram.

Canal traveled to the premiere with Cruise in a helicopter, Page Six reported.

The two were also spotted at the Battersea Power Station’s helipad just a week after the "Twisters" premiere, according to the outlet.

In the caption on Canal's Instagram shutting down the dating rumors, she noted, "in all seriousness guys, tom has been nothing but a respectful and encouraging person and mentor, much like chris martin, my dad, my music teachers and other wise people that have learned a lot from living. and again, i am friends with all kinds of people who are very different to me. you learn a lot if you're open to life bringing you those teachers."

Cruise was married to Mimi Rogers, Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes. Outside his marriages, the "Jerry Mcguire" star has been linked to a handful of high-profile women, including Melissa Gilbert, Heather Locklear and Penélope Cruz.

Back in February, there were rumors swirling that Cruise and Russian socialite Elsina Khayrova, 36, were dating. The two attended London’s Air Ambulance Charity together Feb. 7.

The actor was also linked to Shakira, 47, in May 2023 after the two were photographed walking together at Miami's Formula One Grand Prix race.

The rumor mill quickly began grinding out headlines, but the recently divorced Shakira shut down the story shortly after the photo was taken.
